Training for TV does what the name says… it offers courses and learning modules to media professionals. We are passionate about both teaching and our industry. We take great pride in helping people to learn new things and do their jobs better.
,As a Company, we have been running for 11 years and have helped thousands of people. Up until now, we have spent most of that time working with larger corporate players, providing training to their teams in their offices and studios around the world. We have taught in more than 50 countries and at many well known TV stations and channels.
Covid Pandemic…
Since the Covid pandemic stopped so many of our activities, we have developed a range of online modules which offer an alternative to us visiting and meeting you face to face. However, the training is still delivered in person with largely the same content, so other than it being done over a video link trainees are still getting the same high quality experience.
Going forward…
Our view is that online training will probably remain popular even after the pandemic is over, because offers an excellent method of delivering training to smaller communities and individuals where travel is not really an option.
Meet the Team...
Neil Garner
After studying music at the University of Surrey and teacher training in Bath, Neil Garner joined the BBC as a Post Production Operator, working on a wide range of tasks from transmission to telecine and editing to quality assessment.
In 1990 Neil followed his calling as a teacher joining the lecturing team at the BBC’s residential training centre – Wood Norton, and has been a full time broadcast trainer ever since. During his time with the BBC Neil developed a range of commercial courses and lead many large projects, working with overseas broadcasters as well as all the main UK players.
In 2006 Neil set up his own training business and now provides a range of training courses to a wide variety of customers throughout the world.
He teaches a broad range of subjects across the whole operational curriculum, specialising in technical knowledge based training, such as video, audio and digital systems training. He is also well known for his Vision Mixing, Gallery Skills and Quality Monitoring courses.
Neil has lots of experience of designing, planning and delivering large training projects and regularly provides training consultancy to major broadcasters and manufacturers.
Although Neil now manages the company, he still tries to spend a good deal of his time doing what he likes most… teaching.
Mike Butler
Mike Butler joined the BBC in 1979, having graduated from Southampton University with a degree in Electronic Engineering and Communications. He took up a post in the Videotape Recording department, and quickly developed an interest in Editing and Post-Production.
Moving on from the BBC in the mid 1980’s, Mike worked as an Editor and Post Supervisor for several of London’s top Post Houses, before becoming Freelance.
Qualified as an Avid Certified Instructor, he has trained industry professionals worldwide on Avid Media Composer and Symphony systems, and is regarded as an authority on editing and production workflows.
In addition to his Avid skills, he’s also able to offer training in Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop.
As a well-known trainer in the Broadcast industry, Mike has worked regularly for the BBC Academy as an Associate Lecturer, and for the Nation Film and Television School as a Visiting Lecturer.
Mike formally joined forces with Neil in Training For TV in 2018, cementing a co-operative relationship that had been developing for many years.
